The
Summary screen
is designed to give you an overview of your
data set and is by default the first screen you will see when you open
or create a new TSG data file. It is particularly useful for gauging the
degree and type of variability within large data sets. This screen
consists of two sub-screens, the Assemblage Histogram (upper) and the
Feature Frequency Chart (lower).
The Assemblage Histogram is driven by the
automated spectral analysis program called The Spectral Assistant
(TSA v 5.0) which is built into TSG. It is designed to give you an
overview of the mineral species or classes likely to be present in your
data set. It can be a useful indication of the assemblages or suites of
minerals present (eg. phyllic, propylitic, argillic, felsic, mafic,
ultramafic, etc.), before launching into the detail analysis of a large
number of individual spectra.
The lower half of the Summary Screen is
dedicated to the Feature Frequency Chart. With experience users often
start to see that certain projects, styles of mineralisation and
geologic environments tend to produce their own type of pattern on the
Feature Frequency Chart. In a way it's a little bit like a finger print
for a data set. These patterns can be used to quickly recognise
potentially important changes in lithology, alteration or regolith
conditions in project areas.
