Using TSG
Is TSG
compatible with Windows Vista?
All current testing indicates that TSG
appears to be fully compatible with Vista. The
only possible problem is that the help file program used to
view the "User Manual" and "Common Minerals" help files in
TSG is no longer used by Vista. However, this can be
corrected by downloading from this MS Windows link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=82148
then download the Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) to be
able to view the User manual and also the "Common Minerals"
help file.
if you
encounter any other issues with Vista and TSG, please
inform us as soon as possible so we can address
them.
How do I
install TSG?
To install TSG first
Download the set up file for the
version of TSG you have purchased or wish to trial. Then run
the set up file on your PC to install TSG.
Following this, you will need to send a
registration request to AusSpec either for a
dongle or node lock registration file. AusSpec will
email you your registration details and then your TSG
licence will run normally. More details on the installation
and registration process are discussed in the
Installation section.
I am upgrading my computer, how can I
transfer my Node locked licence to another computer?
We will be glad to provide you with
new Node lock details for your new computer, as long as you
confirm in writing that the licence on the old computer has
been completely removed.
My TSG licence tells me it has timed
out, how can I get an update?
Please contact AusSpec for the annual
update to your TSG licence. As long as you are a registered
TSG user, AusSpec will provide this update at no charge.
What is the difference between node
locking and a dongle?
-
Node
locking means that TSG will be locked to the your selected computer and cannot be moved
between computers. The registration details are specific to the computer that
TSG has been installed on. Note that the TSG Viewer is only available in Node lock
format.
-
A
Dongle is a piece of hardware that plugs into a USB port on your
computer. When locked on a dongle, TSG will not run on a computer unless the
dongle is attached. This means that a single TSG license can be installed on
more than one computer, but can only be run on one of them at a time. Dongles
are useful for those users who need to use TSG on their office computer but also
need to have it on a laptop when they are at home or in the field. There is an
additional cost for dongles.
How can I replace a
lost/stolen/damaged dongle?
If you lose
the dongle a new dongle will be provided for a charge of $2,000 provided that
you can satisfy CSIRO and AusSpec that the dongle
is irretrievably lost. This is normally carried out by a Statutory Declaration setting out the
circumstances of the loss or otherwise. AusSpec and CSIRO may at their
discretion replace the Hardware Key with a Node Locked version of the Software
to be installed on a particular computer only. There would be no
charge for this latter option.
In the case of a damaged
dongle, there will be a charge of $150 for the provision of
a new dongle upon the
return
of the damaged dongle.
I get an error when I try to
open up my TSG file

Each tsg file is actually made up of three
different related files, the *.tsg, *.bip, and the *.ini.
If the *.tsg and *.bip files are not present together in the
same directory then the .tsg file will not open. This
is because the .bip file is the file that actually holds the
spectral data.
Although not essential for opening the .tsg
file, the .ini file is the file that contains the
information on the screen display set up from the last time
you opened that tsg file (your saved display settings).
If it is not present in the same directory as the other
files for that data set, then the screen displays will be
re-set to their default options.
Why do I have a problem with
importing more than ~1700 spectra into a TSG file?
This is related to an MS Windows
limitation, related to buffer size. To circumvent this all you need to
do is to click on the "Select a directory (all files in it)" button
(available for all spectral formats) which will then allow import
of any number of spectra into your TSG file. Just make sure that
the directory only includes the spectra that you want to import.
How do I change my graphics
output from a black background to a white background?
If you wish to output any
of the TSG plots for a report but do not want to retain the black
background, then go to the
Settings..
panel (in the
File
drop down menu). The first tab (Gfx1) has a number of options for
the graphics displays on your TSG, one of them is Swap B/W off screen if
you check this box then B/W will be swapped in your copied graphics
(for bitmap as well as enhanced
metafile graphics formats).
